Even presidents get participation trophies
I’ve resisted the temptation to write about the spring Republican donor retreat that took place over the weekend of April 9 and 10. It’s been hard because Trump made such a fool of himself that it just begged to be written about.
But I held off, delving into other important topics like gun control and immigration. You know, stuff that we should care about instead of Trump’s antics.

Biden just did a terrible thing to his VP. He gave her the same assignment that Obama gave him when he was VP. It didn’t turn out well then and it could possibly not turn out well this time around either.

He has squandered the momentum he had when his rescue plan was passed
It pains me to say this, but I’m really disappointed with President Biden. He got off to a really good start even before he was inaugurated. And then followed that up with his American Rescue Plan. Got it passed in record time. Checks sent out in record time. Vaccination rates setting records.
His approval rating (53.3%) was higher than his predecessor’s highest approval rating of 47%.
Then he stumbled.
Infrastructure hasn’t been going well for him. Mainly, it’s about the taxes needed to pay for the projects.

We need action, not lectures
When he was running for office, candidate Biden promised that if elected, on Day One of his administration, he would sign executive orders concerning gun control. Well, he got elected but there was this pandemic going on which became more of a priority.
You know, because it was killing more people than guns were.
So here we are, three months in and he is finally getting around to gun control. But only because when he said he wanted to work on infrastructure first, gun control proponents raised holy hell and then there were a couple more mass shootings.

I really want to write about the Biden administration. You know, infrastructure, taxes to pay for it, gun control (did he just say something about the second amendment not being absolute?), there’s lotsa good stuff going on.
But . . .
Have you seen the weird shit going on in the Republican Party? I hate to keep writing about it day after day, but damn, they have really gone off the deep end.

Representative Alcee Hastings has passed away at age 84. His death has opened a competitive seat in Florida and put the Democrats’ thin majority in the House in danger.
But endangering the Democrats’ majority didn’t have to happen.
Rep. Hastings is the perfect example of why we need a mandatory retirement age and term limits in both the House and the Senate.

I can’t believe that I am writing about this again. I warned you that it was going to happen and it has happened.
As you may recall, Trump never conceded the 2020 election to Biden, so in his mind he is still the president.

Boehner and Ryan are the new dynamic duo opposing Trump
The old guard of the Republican Party are continuing their war against Trump. John Boehner has joined Paul Ryan in backing Liz Cheney in her re-election campaign to retain her seat in the House representing Wyoming.
As you may recall, Trump has sworn to unseat every Congressmen and every senator who voted to impeach or convict him and replace them with his own hand-picked MAGA candidates. He has been especially incensed about Liz Cheney.
Representative Cheney not only had the audacity to vote to impeach Trump and continue to speak out against him, but she is also female.

The grifting was never-ending during the nightmare that was the Trump administration. Trump’s largest money grab occurred during his campaign for a second term.
According to the New York Times, the Trump campaign was running out of money by the end of the summer of 2020. Trump was furious. And not just because there was no money for media buys, but also because the Biden campaign was ahead in fundraising.

Are their apologies real?
Over 300 people who participated in the insurrection on January 6 are in now in custody. Removed from the influences of Trump and the conservative media, they are coming to their senses and realizing how serious their actions were.
Many who posted photos of themselves on social media and bragged about their actions at the time are issuing public apologies and asking for leniency from the courts.
There has been some question whether the apologies are real or just a ploy for lighter sentences. I believe that the apologies are sincere.
