The Republican Party seems to be in the grips of a mass delusion

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), who is chairman of the campaign arm of the Republican Party, has released a memo addressed to GOP donors, leaders, activists and voters. The memo declares that the Republican civil war is now cancelled.

What universe is he living in?

The “civil war” to which he is referring is the intra-party war between the Trump wing of the Republican Party and the, shall we say, more traditional members of the Party.

The Republican Party is in danger of being torn apart by a delusional wannabe fascist dictator. …

After meeting with Trump, Perdue has cancelled his plans to run for Senator of Georgia

A short seven days ago, I opined about David Perdue’s challenge to Raphael Warnock for Georgia senator in 2022. As you may recall, Warnock’s and Jon Ossoff’s wins gave control of the Senate to the Democrats.

The winds of change blew in from Florida and suddenly Perdue has changed his mind about running.

I wonder why that happened? Could it possibly have something to do with Perdue’s trip to see Trump and kiss the ring…I mean…get his endorsement as all Republican candidates must do these days?

The New York Times is reporting that Perdue had dinner and a “lengthy round…

He has announced his intention to question Garland about opening a DOJ investigation into a matter that is already under investigation by the DOJ

The confirmation hearing of Judge Merrick Garland has become must-see TV. Four hopefuls for the 2024 Republican presidential candidacy sit on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Tom Cotton (R-AR), Josh Hawley (R-MO), Ben Sasse (R-NE) and the man that everyone loves to hate, Ted Cruz (R-TX).

I am giddy with excitement.

Why, you may ask? Because the Senate Judiciary Committee has become a springboard for presidential candidates. Kamala Harris’ sharp questioning of Trump’s SCOTUS picks catapulted her from a virtual unknown to a serious contender for the presidency and then into the office of Vice President. …

They have introduced a thinly veiled bill to deny Trump the perks to which he is entitled as a former president

House Democrats have introduced a bill to withhold the usual perks enjoyed by former presidents from “twice impeached presidents” i.e. Trump. The bill would prevent a twice impeached president from being buried in Arlington Cemetery, or having their name on any “highway, park, subway, federal building, military installation, street, or other federal property”. Additionally, a twice impeached president would be stripped of their pension and other perks usually given to a former president. They would, however, be allowed to retain their Secret Service protection.

Can you say petty revenge?

Come on guys, we have so many other more urgent issues…

Has he destroyed his chance to run for president in 2024?

Ted Cruz is one of those very smart people who completely lacks any common sense. He also lacks people skills, empathy, and political instincts.

Reminds me a lot of that other guy. You know, the one with the orange spray tan and bad combover. Yeah, him.

Cruz was elected to the Senate in 2012 as a Tea Party candidate. Which makes sense for a politician from Texas. …

He is re-asserting his leadership over the Republican Party and clearly signaling that he will run again in 2024

I know that it seems like I am obsessed with Trump, but he is the biggest danger facing our country. He is more dangerous than Russia, China or North Korea. They are all external threats which we are prepared to face. Trump is an internal threat which we are woefully unprepared to meet.

He is a threat because he doesn’t get it. He doesn’t understand how government works. He doesn’t understand government’s role in the wellbeing of the country. He doesn’t understand government’s role in the global order.

He spent four years trying to run the country like he ran…

Trump released a letter condemning McConnell in the harshest possible terms

On Tuesday, former President Trump emerged from his self-imposed exile to release a blistering letter slamming Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for his poor leadership skills and accusing him of losing the Senate in the 2020 election. Since Trump has been deplatformed from social media including Twitter, his favorite means of communicating with his supporters and the world, the statement was issued by his new PAC, Save America.

You can read it here.

His aides say that Trump wrote the 600 word screed himself, but it is far too coherent and too lengthy (Trump has the attention span of a fruit…

David Perdue, a Trump favorite, will be running against Democrat incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock in the 2022 midterms

You know that expression “you never get a second chance to make a first impression?” Well, Georgia is going to try. David Perdue, a Republican who lost a runoff election in Georgia for the Senate in January to Democrat Jon Ossoff, has filed paperwork to challenge Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock in the 2022 midterm election. Warnock had beaten Kelly Loeffler in the January 2021 runoff election for his seat.

Whew, did you follow all of that? Let’s hop into our time machine and go back to November 2020 and see if we can sort this all out.

Ironically, he is being charged with violating a statute that was inspired by the Ku Klux Klan

You know, if I didn’t know better, I might agree with Trump’s paranoid fantasy about a witch hunt. Not satisfied with the verdict in his second Senate impeachment trial, the NAACP on behalf of Representative Benny Thompson, Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, has filed a federal lawsuit against Trump for inciting the insurrection against the Capitol on January 6.

The lawsuit is based on the provisions of what’s known as the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871 which was passed after the Civil War to prevent violence or intimidation against members of Congress and other Federal officials who…
