The Republican Party is splitting into a third caucus. Reports from various media outlets revealed that Marjorie Taylor Greene was on the verge of announcing her new caucus when the manifesto was leaked to the press (you can read it here) and she reacted like a kid caught with her hand in the cookie jar.
Just a brief recap of what has been going on in the Republican Party since Trump left office. Initially members were happy to have Trumpism as their ideology. Let’s call them the Trump Republicans.
Mike Pompeo, the former Secretary of State under Trump, is in a wee bit of trouble. Seems he, or more accurately his wife, used State Department personnel to run personal errands and do other personal things for both the mister and the missus while the mister was the Secretary of State.
This is considered misappropriation of government funds since the taxpayers were paying the salaries of the State Department personnel while they were doing things like sending out the Pompeo’s Christmas cards, taking care of their dog and purchasing hostess gifts for private dinners that the Pompeo’s attended.
The race to replace Rob Portman, the Republican senator from Ohio is heating up with a familiar face joining one of the campaigns.
First, let’s talk a little bit about why Rob Portman is leaving. He said that he had two reasons. Partisan gridlock and the long Ohio to DC commute. Seriously. He has served in two administrations and both the House and the Senate.
I admire him for knowing when to gracefully leave. He is 65 years old and you know how I feel about term limits and mandatory retirement.
Truthfully though, I think it’s the so-called partisan gridlock…
Remember when Trump would talk about ending the wars in the Middle East during his rallies? It was a great applause line. But, of course, no wars were ever ended because Trump’s decisions always depended on the last person he talked to. So when he would discuss ending the wars with his military advisors, they would always talk him out of it.
Biden, on the other hand, is not so manipulable. He has given it a lot of thought. Unlike Trump who has no thoughts beyond a stolen election and who voted to impeach or convict him.
No amount of…
I’ve resisted the temptation to write about the spring Republican donor retreat that took place over the weekend of April 9 and 10. It’s been hard because Trump made such a fool of himself that it just begged to be written about.
It was when they gave Trump an award and tweeted that photo of him holding the little silver bowl with a creepy grin on his face that I lost all self-control.
Biden just did a terrible thing to his VP. He gave her the same assignment that Obama gave him when he was VP. It didn’t turn out well then and it could possibly not turn out well this time around either.
On March 24, Biden announced that he was putting Harris in charge of . . . well, that kinda depends on who you talk to.
The initial announcement said that she was going to be the point person on immigration issues on the southern border, specifically “stemming the rising tide of migrants, many of them unaccompanied children, arriving in…
It pains me to say this, but I’m really disappointed with President Biden. He got off to a really good start even before he was inaugurated. And then followed that up with his American Rescue Plan. Got it passed in record time. Checks sent out in record time. Vaccination rates setting records.
Then he stumbled.
Infrastructure hasn’t been going well for him. Mainly, it’s about the taxes needed to pay for the projects.
The border has been a disaster. Biden seems to be floundering around rather…
When he was running for office, candidate Biden promised that if elected, on Day One of his administration, he would sign executive orders concerning gun control. Well, he got elected but there was this pandemic going on which became more of a priority.
You know, because it was killing more people than guns were.
So here we are, three months in and he is finally getting around to gun control. But only because when he said he wanted to work on infrastructure first, gun control proponents raised holy hell and then there were a couple more mass shootings.
I really want to write about the Biden administration. You know, infrastructure, taxes to pay for it, gun control (did he just say something about the second amendment not being absolute?), there’s lotsa good stuff going on.
But . . .
Have you seen the weird shit going on in the Republican Party? I hate to keep writing about it day after day, but damn, they have really gone off the deep end.
Let’s briefly recap.
So far, Trump has sent a cease-and-desist order to the party telling them to stop using his name and image in their fundraising efforts.
Representative Alcee Hastings has passed away at age 84. His death has opened a competitive seat in Florida and put the Democrats’ thin majority in the House in danger.
But endangering the Democrats’ majority didn’t have to happen.
Rep. Hastings is the perfect example of why we need a mandatory retirement age and term limits in both the House and the Senate.
For those of you who always become incensed and accuse me of ageism, know two things before you read further.
1. You are never going to change my mind.
2. I am a Baby Boomer and speaking out…
