A Year-End Message to My Readers (2021 Edition)
“What a long strange trip it’s been” — The Grateful Dead
--
I often refer to the fact that I am a senior citizen, a Baby Boomer with a long memory of US politics. My first political memory was the Kennedy assassination.
A decade later, those of us who lived through the Watergate era thought that that was the worst thing that could happen to our country.
We were so wrong.
I don’t think anyone ever thought that we would see an attempted coup on our soil. Nor did we ever expect to have a defeated president set up a shadow presidency, complete with a replica Oval Office, cabinet meetings and even a diplomatic mission to a foreign country.
That was some crazy shit.
And 2022 promises to be even crazier with MAGA candidates galore running for office in the midterm elections ranging from the Congress to local school boards and everything in between.
If the Republicans, as expected, take control of the House and Senate, watch out! Impeachments could be on the horizon.
Thank you for riding the Crazy Train with me this past year. Your ticket is open ended so I hope that you will stick with me through the upcoming year.
I can confidently promise you that we will be witnessing more interesting sights, not all of them good.
There may even be sights that we never thought that we would see. This is the Age of Trump when all of the old rules have been tossed out of the window and we are only beginning to learn the new rules.
As I said at this time last year, I appreciate all of your claps and comments, whether you agree with me or not. I’ve enjoyed your insights, corrections and encouragement. Please continue to share them.
This old dog can still learn a few new tricks.
I’m going to sign off for 2021. See you in the New Year.
Be sure to keep your seatbelts fastened and your seat backs and tray tables in their upright and locked positions. It’s going to be a very bumpy ride.
