Abortion Trafficking Is Now Illegal in Alabama and Texas
It is against the law to help a woman travel to another state to obtain an abortion
We knew it was going to happen, didn’t we? Not content with outlawing abortion, red states, beginning with Alabama and Texas, are making it illegal to travel to another state to obtain an abortion.
Pregnant women living in red states with abortion bans are now effectively prisoners.
First, let’s define the term, abortion trafficking. The word “trafficking” normally refers to people who are forced or coerced into illegal activities. In this case, it’s not the pregnant woman who is being trafficked, it is the fetus that she is carrying that is “trafficked” because it is being forced into leaving the state and being aborted.
I’ll pause here for a moment to let that sink in.
Now, let’s talk about how Alabama and Texas are trying to prevent this so-called abortion trafficking.
In Alabama, the attorney general, Steve Marshall, says that he has the right to prosecute anyone who makes travel arrangements for a pregnant woman to leave the state to obtain an abortion. He considers such planning to be a criminal conspiracy.
