Alabama Declares Frozen Embryos are Children

Fertility treatments are in jeopardy

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water … the abortion wars have started up again. But there’s a twist this time. And it’s a classic case of MAGA morons not thinking things through. I would love it if it wasn’t so sad.

Here’s what’s been going on. Down in Alabama (no surprise there), frozen embryos belonging to couples undergoing IVF treatment were destroyed by a hospital patient who dumped them out of their liquid nitrogen tanks. Not sure why they did it, but the why has nothing to do with what followed.

The couples sought justice for their destroyed embryos, which were initially not viewed as children, and the Appeals Court granted them that justice declaring that the embryos were, in fact, children and therefore subject to an 1872 statute allowing parents to sue over the wrongful death of a minor child.

So far, so good, right?

You would be wrong if you think that because the fallout of the decision is that IVF treatment will become less available, if not impossible, in Alabama because doctors and clinics will be afraid to perform the procedure, fearing they could be jailed for murder if the embryos died.
