And the Poll Says …
Harris is losing to Trump by less than Biden was losing to Trump
Biden’s announcement that he was dropping out of the race and endorsing his vice president who proceeded to lock up the nomination in short order has had the pollsters licking their chops. They couldn’t wait to start polling to see the huge surge of support and excitement Harris’ campaign was generating.
First out of the gate was the New York Times/ Siena poll which showed that … drumroll, please … Trump is currently at 48% while Harris has narrowed his lead with a whopping 47%.
God, I bet the pollsters were crying.
But, wait … that was likely voters. What did registered voters have to say? Trump 48% versus Harris 46%.
Was there any good news in the poll? Why, yes there was.
First of all, after the debate, Biden was losing to Trump by over 6 points. Harris is only losing by 1 or 2 points, well within the margin of error meaning that she isn’t really losing. It’s a statistical tie.
From where I sit, statistical ties don’t win elections.
More good news: Harris’ favorability rating has risen ten points to 46%, the highest it has been since she took office and, finally, higher than Biden’s meager 38%.
