Phillips has sold his soul to a billionaire and Kennedy is forming his own party
While we’ve all been riveted by the spectacle of the Republican primaries, there is stuff going on on the Democratic side. Not much, but enough to be a palate cleanser between the Trump trials and his coronation as the Republican nominee.
Minnesota Representative Dean Phillips set off a kerfuffle this week when he made a minor change to his website. He changed the header “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” to “Equity and Restorative Justice.”
Why did that get everyone’s panties in a twist? Besides the fact that if you want the progressive vote, you have to be loud and proud about your support of DEI, Phillips had just accepted the endorsement and a $1 million donation from William A. Ackman, billionaire and enemy of DEI.
Ackman tried to tamp down the fire by saying that Phillips hadn’t understood DEI until Ackman sent him information on it. And, besides, Ackman didn’t actually donate a cool million dollars to Phillips’ campaign, he donated it to We Deserve Better, a super PAC formed late last year that is supporting Mr. Phillips’s candidacy.
