Why he wants to withhold $400 million in federal funding to Columbia University
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been wondering why Trump has such a huge bug up his ass about Columbia University. Columbia, you may remember, had a little problem with Pro-Palestinian demonstrators last year. The demonstrations and ensuing encampment were so intense that Jewish students feared for their safety.
And that’s all I’m gonna say about the demonstrations, the encampment and the resulting antisemitism. I’m not going to go into who was right and who was wrong because that’s not what this article is about. Please do not accuse me of antisemitism or Zionism in the comments. For the purposes of this article, I am Switzerland — neutral.
Okay back to Trump and Columbia University. The mystery has been solved thanks to an exposé in the New York Times. Thank you, Maggie Haberman.
Here’s the story. Back in the 90s, Columbia was looking to expand its campus. As you can imagine, there is not a whole lot of empty land in New York City. After studying the surrounding area, they determined that their best choice was a piece of land that was adjacent to their Morningside Heights campus. The land was situated in Harlem.
