As if there weren’t already enough to worry about the upcoming election with the candidates locked in a statistical dead heat, comes word that last minute changes to the Electoral College could throw the election to Trump.

Let’s review where we currently stand with the Electoral College. 48 out of the 50 states allocate their electoral votes in a winner-takes-all format. Whoever wins the popular vote in those states gets all of the state’s electoral votes.

For instance, New Jersey, where I live is known as a blue state but it does have pockets of red. There are the rural areas in southern New Jersey which are conservative and think that Trump is the best thing since sliced bread.

Yes! There are rural areas in the most densely populated state in the country.

Other pockets of Trump support are found in northern New Jersey in the very exclusive towns populated by the titans of Wall Street.

The rest of the state is blue, and since the population is larger in those areas, New Jersey is considered a blue state and consistently allocates all of its electoral votes to the Democrats.
