DeSantis is Losing Donors

His extremism is driving them away

My, my, how the worm has turned. Back in February, I wrote about Trump not being invited to the Club For Growth’s annual donor conference because they considered Trump toxic among general election voters.

Instead, donors were treated to a line-up that included the Dark Lord of Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, who hadn’t announced her candidacy yet, Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo, who had not yet dropped out of the race, Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), who hadn’t announced his candidacy yet, and Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) of Virginia.

Well, here we are just a few short months later and the political landscape looks completely different. DeSantis has gone from leading Trump in the polls to steadily losing ground to Trump in the polls. A Reuters/Ipsos poll taken after Trump was indicted shows Trump with 58% of Republican votes to DeSantis’ 21%. That is a 10% gain compared to a week earlier, before his indictment.

More importantly, billionaire Thomas Peterffy, the chairman of Interactive Brokers, told the Financial Times that he and his friends, have paused their support of DeSantis due to his “extreme positions on social issues.”
