DeSantis Releases His Secret Weapon: His Wife
Can she salvage his floundering campaign?
Ron DeSantis’ campaign is in big trouble. His own spokesperson, Steve Cortes, admits it:
“Right now, in national polling, we are way behind. I’ll be the first to admit that. I believe in being really blunt and really honest. It’s an uphill battle.”
The biggest PAC supporting DeSantis, Never Back Down, refers to Trump as the “runaway front-runner” in the race.
And then there is the funding problem. Trump’s popularity and donations rose each time he was indicted, while DeSantis’ popularity and donations have been falling.
DeSantis officially announced his candidacy for president in May and since then has raised $20 million. Which sounds impressive until you read the fine print. $8.2 million of that was raised on the first day. The rest seems to be coming in at a much less rapid pace.
And that PAC? They claim to have raised $130 million since March. Another quick look at the fine print: $80 million of that was money left over from DeSantis’ re-election campaign for governor.
And finally there was that cringe-y video criticizing Trump on his stance on gay rights which somehow turned into yet another homo-erotic…
