Dictator Trump Declares War on Democratic States
He is withholding funds from states that voted for Kamala Harris
I woke up yesterday morning to screaming headlines that Dictator Trump had pulled the funding for the Second Avenue subway and the Gateway Project. I almost didn’t need coffee to get going into a screaming rage that started with:
“Mamdani hasn’t been elected yet. The election is in November. You said you would pull the funding if he were elected.”
So, why did I get so worked up about this? Well, the Second Avenue subway has been under construction, on and off, for over a century. Whenever they can squeeze a few bucks out of the New York City budget, they drill a few more feet. In case you aren’t aware, the subway tunnels in New York City are drilled through bedrock. It takes monumental effort, even with modern drilling equipment.
The Gateway Project is much, much, MUCH more urgent. Its purpose is to bore two new rail tunnels across the Hudson River between New Jersey and New York. The original tunnels were constructed in 1910. Yes, you heard that right. Rail commuters between New Jersey and New York are riding through tunnels that were built when most people were still getting around in horse drawn buggies.
