First of all, the wealthy pay much less in income tax than ordinary people.

You are thinking in absolute terms. You need to think in relative terms. Someone who is making $18,000 and is taxed at 12%, is unable to afford rent, food, gas, childcare, etc., after tax. Someone who is making $180,000 and is taxed at 32% has more than enough after tax to afford rent, food, gas, childcare, etc.

The maximum tax rate is 37% on incomes over $500,000. It should be much higher so that people making on the lower end of the income scale can be taxed less and actually be able to afford rent, food, gas, childcare, etc.

Are you saying that you don't care that families are homeless because they can't afford rent? Or whose children are malnourished because they paid the rent instead of buying food? There are people who make those tradeoffs every day.

Wealthy people who complain about paying taxes are selfish and entitled.
