Florida Legislature Considers Yet Another Anti-LGBTQ+ Law

This one would allow doctors to refuse to treat anyone who violates their religious beliefs

There are screaming headlines every day documenting the battle between Florida governor Ron DeSantis and Disney. Each move and countermove is carefully analyzed daily, sometimes hourly.

But while all that has been going on, no one is talking about the new, horrifying legislation working its way through the Florida legislature.

You know, there is a war going on in Florida being fought against the LGBTQ+ community. First there was the “Don’t Say Gay” law which has now been expanded to K-12. Then there was the law that banned gender-affirming care for children and teens.

Now there is a bill that has passed the House which will allow both doctors and insurance companies to refuse treatment (doctors) and payment (insurance companies) to patients who “go against their religious, moral or ethical beliefs.”

Here’s the language in the bill:

“Authorizes health care providers & health care payors to opt out of participation in or payment for health care services by conscience-based objections without discrimination or threat of adverse…
