Gosar and Greene to be Rewarded For Making Death Threats
Republicans are encouraging dangerous behavior
Something very dangerous happened in the House of Representatives this week. Representative Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) was censured and removed from his committee assignments on November 17.
This is the second time that a Republican representative has threatened to kill Democratic colleagues and the Republican leadership team has done nothing.
Democrats were the ones that had to mete out discipline, first to Marjorie Taylor Greene after she threatened on social media in February to kill Speaker Nancy Pelosi and now Paul Gosar who posted an anime of himself killing Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
So here’s the dangerous part.
The following day, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy announced that if the Republicans win the midterms, not only will he restore Gosar and Greene’s committee assignments, but he will give them better committee assignments.
Which tells Republicans that not only are there no consequences for death threats against Democrats, but that Republicans will be rewarded for threatening their Democratic colleagues with death.
And think of the message that this is sending the base. You know, the crazies who worship Trump. The message that they are hearing is that it is open season on Democrats.
How much longer do you think it will be before someone gets hurt or even killed?
You know, I’ve been talking about the end of our democracy for a while if Trump regains office in 2024 which looks likely.
What I, and a lot of other people, haven’t realized is that our democracy is already at an end.
It is not democracy if one party countenances death threats towards members of another party. A government cannot function properly if members are in fear of their lives.
Think about which countries are intolerant of opposition and think nothing of jailing or killing them. It’s not democratic countries like the members of the EU or Canada. It’s countries headed by the likes of Putin, Xi, Kim, Erdoğan.
