I have some thoughts

I’ve been mulling over Harris’ new economic plan. My biggest problem with it was that it seemed to be missing something. Something really important.

We’ll get to that later. In the meantime, I have to admit that I agreed with a lot of what she had to say.

I’m all for funding builders to build affordable housing, both single family homes and apartments. Where I live in Central New Jersey, there is a ton of building going on, but it’s all luxury units with luxury prices. Luxury homes. Luxury apartments. Luxury condos. Luxury over-50 homes.

Ordinary families can no longer afford to buy anything. And for those of us who already own and plan on staying put, the value of our homes has risen so much that our property taxes are going through the roof. My taxes increased 30% this year.

New Jersey has the highest property taxes in the nation. The median annual tax is $9,345 versus the U.S. median of $6,563.

So, yeah, subsidize all the affordable housing you want. We need it here in New Jersey.

I also liked her proposal to limit the out-of-pocket expenses for prescriptions to $2,000 annually for everyone. That’s one of the things I love about Medicare. Cheap prescriptions. Know what my copay is for Prednisone…
