I addressed that in my article. The military was ordered to protect the embassy in Kabul. They couldn’t protect Bagram and the embassy so they evacuated Bagram taking all of their equipment, leaving the Afghans with nothing. They even disconnected the electricity. When they evacuated the Kabul airport on Aug 30, they disabled all of the equipment they couldn’t take with them.

The equipment that was “left behind" that has Republicans upset about was the armaments that had previously been supplied to the Afghan military and police who were supposed to use it to fight the Taliban. They chose not to fight and handed the equipment over to the Taliban.
