I believe that there are only a few counties in NC that are blue. The rest of the state is deep red. Having a Democratic governor does not make the state purple.
Blue and Red designations are decided by how the majority of voters vote, not by the makeup of the state government.
A Purple state would have roughly half of the voters voting Democratic and the other half voting Republican.
Georgia is a good example of a state becoming Purple are more voters voting Democratic with each election.
