I don't recall LBJ being ridiculed. In fact, he was put on the ticket to offset JFK's youth and inexperience. Same with the Obama/Biden ticket. Nor do I recall anyone making fun of Al Gore. He went on to win the 2000 election although we ended up with W instead.
