I think that you are misreading the situation. First of all, Biden chose Harris as his running mate to earn the Black vote in 2020. That was the agreement that he had with Jim Clyburn. Clyburn would deliver the South Carolina primary for Biden if Biden promised to chose a Black woman for VP. Both men kept their promises. Biden chose Harris over better qualified Black women because she was a friend of his late son, Beau and had become close to the family after Beau's death. Biden is stuck with Harris, because if he doesn't keep her on the ticket, Black voters won't vote for him.
Biden's best bet is to drop out of the race and endorse Harris. She won't win the primary. Her approval ratings are in the toilet. And remember, in the 2020 race, she dropped out in December 2019 because she was doing so poorly. She didn't even make it to the Iowa caucuses.
Her poor showing in the 2024 race will allow the other candidates a chance to really shine, even without Biden's endorsement.
No one has painted themselves into a corner. Biden is the problem. He is blocking more qualified candidates from running. He needs to step out of the way.
