DeSantis did better than expected

Raise your hand if you were surprised that Trump won the Iowa caucuses. Just as I expected. Nobody raised their hand. Now raise your hand if you were surprised that DeSantis came in second and Haley came in third.

Yup, that’s my hand you see.

I really thought that the former Dark Lord of Florida was finished. That he would come in a distant third to Haley, declare the end of his campaign and slink back to Florida. But he sank all of his war chest into knocking on every Iowa Republican’s door five times and managed to finish two points ahead of Haley.

Millions of dollars. Two points. Was it really worth it, Ronnie?

Personally, I think it was the weather that defeated Haley. Her supporters weren’t excited enough about her candidacy to brave sub-zero temps to caucus for her.

I also think that DeSantis finished ahead of her cuz caucus-goers were sick of his people knocking on their doors. Going out in sub-zero temps for a few hours was worth it for some peace and quiet.

So, my big prediction for the New Hampshire primary is that Haley will do better and DeSantis will do worse. Granite staters don’t care for his dystopian vision for the country. DeSantis should definitely pack it in after New Hampshire because…
