Is McCarthy In Danger of Losing His Position as Speaker?
The Freedom Caucus is hinting at filing a motion to vacate
Well, it looks like the chickens have come home to roost. In his desperation to get his greedy little hands on the gavel of the Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy made a lot of promises including needing only one person to call for a vote on a motion to vacate.
In other words, it only takes one disgruntled Republican to call for a vote to remove McCarthy from office as Speaker of the House. And it would only take a majority of the House to vote in favor of removing him.
And, to achieve that, all that would be needed would be just a few disgruntled Republicans to join what would be the elated Democrats to vote McCarthy out of office.
Let’s do the math. To succeed, the motion to vacate would need 218 votes for a majority. Democrats currently have 212 votes. So, only six Republicans would have to join the Democrats to get to 218.
So, why all of a sudden is McCarthy’s job in jeopardy? Because the House Freedom Caucus wants to impeach President Joe Biden and McCarthy is dragging his heels on it.
