It would have been the perfect ending for his career. He righted the ship of state after Trump nearly capsized it. And having gotten the country back on track, he could have gracefully retired. Instead, he is dooming himself to either ignominious defeat in the election or, if he wins, having to step aside due to disability, illness or death. Such a shame.
