Judge Chutkan Has Imposed a Limited Gag Order on Trump
He is still free to attack her
Jack Smith grabbed the bull by the horns, or, in this case, Trump by his bad comb-over, and asked Judge Tanya Chutkan for a limited gag order to prevent Trump from trying to intimidate witnesses and jurors in the 2020 election interference case.
Smith really lucked out when Chutkan was randomly chosen to preside over the election interference case. She’s a tough judge who was tough on participants in the Jan 6 insurrection. Every single case that came before her, she imposed jail time, most times exceeding what the DOJ had asked for.
My kind of woman.
In fact, Trump’s lawyers have asked her to recuse herself because of the things she said about Trump while sentencing Jan 6 defendants. She just swatted them away like an annoying fly.
By far, my fave moment was her epic takedown of Trump when she ruled against him in an executive privilege case. She said:
“Presidents are not kings, and Plaintiff is not President. At bottom, this is a dispute between a former and incumbent President. And the Supreme Court has already made clear that in such circumstances, the incumbent’s view is accorded greater weight.”
