Kathi, the problem is that most people are not intellectually curious like you and I are. They would not bother checking the original documents for themselves. They would just accept what is written in their textbooks and what their instructors told them.

A guy I knew in college was looking forward to graduating so that he would "never have to read another book again." I was shocked at the time and thought that he was an outlier. Many years later, I have learned that his attitude is very common.
