Louisiana Decides Against Exceptions to Its Abortion Ban
The crazies were out in force
Pssst … didja hear what’s goin’ on in Louisiana? It’s batshit crazy down there. Louisiana has one of the strictest abortion bans in the country. The only exceptions are for the life of the mother and certain birth defects.
Not all of them. Just some.
So, for instance, if the fetus is suffering from acrania, meaning it is missing part or all of its skull, you’re shit outta luck. Acrania is not on the list of acceptable reasons to get an abortion, so you will just have to carry it, give birth to it, and then bury it.
This happened to Nancy Davis whose only option was to travel to Florida to have an abortion. But she had to hurry. Florida banned abortions after 15 weeks.
It’s now 6 weeks, so that option would be off the table today.
A bill to liberalize Louisiana’s abortion law by adding exceptions for rape and incest was introduced by a Rep. Delisha Boyd (D). It was debated and ultimately defeated by the House Criminal Justice Committee by a vote of 10–5. All of the Republicans voted against it.
Here are some of the arguments used to defeat the bill:
