MAGA Is in Da House
Yeah, it’s as bad as you think
I’ve been holding off on writing about Mike Johnson, the new Speaker of the House, hoping that it’s not as bad as it seems. Alas, it is. He is MAGA through and through. In fact, they’re calling him “MAGA Mike.” An election denier, he was an active participant in Trump’s attempted overthrow of the 2020 election.
Very active. As in Johnson was one of the leads in the lawsuit filed by Ken Paxton, the Texas attorney general, seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The suit was rejected by SCOTUS.
After January 6, Johnson voted against certifying the election and continued to support conspiracy theories about the election.
And now he’s second in line for the presidency. Oh, and the House is also tasked with certifying the 2024 election. Can we trust Johnson? Can we trust the Republicans to do the right thing? Or will they try to subvert the will of the voters?
This is crazy.
Just getting through the rest of this Congress will be an exercise in insanity. Already Johnson is trying to split up Biden’s funding request for Israel and Ukraine. He’s okay with sending money to Israel, but like most Republicans, he is against any funding for…
