Mitch McConnell Was Behind Joe Manchin’s Retirement From the Senate
He launched his plan a year ago
So, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is retiring from the Senate. Raise your hand if you were surprised at the news. Yeah, I wasn’t surprised either. His opponent was going to be popular West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R) and Manchin was predicted to lose. Polling put it at 41% to 28%.
Nobody likes to run in a race that they know they are going to lose.
Manchin, of course, is selling it as a turn away from the hyper partisanship in the Senate and an opportunity for him to create a movement to unite the country:
“After months of deliberation and long conversations with my family, I believe in my heart of hearts that I have accomplished what I set out to do for West Virginia. I have made one of the toughest decisions of my life and decided that I will not be running for re-election to the United States Senate, but what I will be doing is traveling the country and speaking out to see if there is an interest in creating a movement to mobilize the middle and bring Americans together.”
Yeah, right.
The Democrats, of course, are in a tizz because this endangers their miniscule majority in the Senate. Majority Leader Chuck…
