It’s time to start talking about the second Republican debate. First, let’s address the elephant in the room. I have been confidently predicting that Trump would make an appearance at the second debate because he wouldn’t be able to resist hogging the spotlight and “dominating” (his favorite word) the other candidates.

I was wrong. But not for the reason you may think. My opinion is that his lawyers are preventing him from joining the second debate. Lawyers, or anyone else for that matter, preventing Trump from doing what he wants to do is pretty mind-boggling.

But Trump is not smart. He is also vain. And, most importantly, he is easily manipulated. So, this is what I think happened behind closed doors at Bedminster. Trump’s lawyers, who have a nearly impossible job ahead of them in defending Trump, don’t want him to go onstage at a debate where everyone will be deliberately goading him, trying to get him to say something damaging.

Instead of telling Trump “no,” they stroked his ego and told him he doesn’t need to debate like the other peons because he is so far ahead in the polls. That debating could bring down his “ratings.” Trump thinks of polls as ratings.
