Nikki Haley’s Breath of Fresh Air

None of Trump’s bluster. Just articulate answers to softball questions

I wasn’t planning on watching Nikki Haley’s town hall on CNN last night. She has a snowball’s chance in hell of winning the nomination. This is the Republican Party. White men only.

Sure, she looks good on the debate stage. Republicans like to pretend that they are for diversity. And with Haley, you get a two-fer: she’s a woman and a POC.

But the nomination? Nah. Mike Pence has a better chance of being the nominee than she does.

But then there was that little kerfuffle a few days ago when she “misspoke” and said that we needed to align with Russia.

Oops.

I’m sure it’s a leftover from her days at the U.N. That must have been a nightmare job. Representing Trump at the U.N.

Okay, she was representing the U.S., not Trump, but he had that whole “L’État c’est moi” thing going on, so the reality was that she was representing Trump.

Anyhoo, I thought I would give her a look and tuned in. And was pleasantly surprised. I can’t believe that I am actually agreeing with a Republican voter who said that she was a breath of fresh air.

You may recall that I sat through the mayhem, shouting, lying, and outright fantasies of Trump’s town hall a few weeks ago.

Watching Haley calmly answer softball questions with answers that she skillfully wove into what is probably her stump speech, made me wonder about the sanity of the MAGA crowd that sees Trump as smart and articulate.

I absolutely loved how she answered a few questions without directly answering them. Like abortion. She repeatedly said that she was pro-life, but refused to say if she would outlaw abortion if she became president.

Instead, she placed the blame on the Senate saying that since it would be impossible to get the necessary 60 votes to avoid a filibuster, she wouldn’t talk about it.

Very neat.

Or how about Trump’s claims about the stolen election? She firmly said that Biden is the rightful president, but we need election integrity. No…
