Republicans Unable to Elect a Speaker

They continue to squabble amongst themselves

I’ve been waiting to write about the speakership battle going on in the House. I figured breathless daily updates would get boring, so I’ve been waiting for the dust to settle. Doesn’t look like it’s going to settle any time soon. This has turned into a classic clusterfuck.

This is exactly why Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) kept his job for as long as he did. There is literally no one else to replace him. Not that there is a lack of talent. No, it’s because there is no one that the Republicans can agree on to replace McCarthy.

Their majority is so slim, there is no room for disagreement if the Democrats aren’t willing to help. So far, the Democrats remain unanimously behind their leader, Hakim Jeffries (D-N.Y.). And are probably enjoying every minute of the chaos.

I have to admit that I’m enjoying it also. Did you love the excuse why Republicans said that they couldn’t back Steve Scalise (R-La.) as much as I did? Blood cancer? Are you shitting me? Have you seen what’s going on over in the Senate?
