Ron DeSantis Bows Out of the Presidential Race
I blame Jack Smith
The weeping and wailing you hear is Casey DeSantis grieving the fact that she won’t be wearing any of her Jackie O inspired outfits to the inauguration or presidential balls in 2025. Her husband Ron, the former Dark Lord of Florida, has decided not to be humiliated in New Hampshire and “suspended” his presidential campaign.
In other words, he quit. This was not unexpected. He was polling in the single digits. Better to leave with at least a little of his dignity intact.
Personally, I blame Jack Smith. What the hell am I talking about? Let’s look at a little history.
Back in 2021, after the failure of the insurrection, and Trump’s second impeachment, it really looked like Trump was done. He tried a comeback, endorsing MAGA candidates in the 2022 midterms, but the Red Wave that he promised turned into a red trickle.
Trump retreated to Mar-A-Lago to lick his wounds. His star was dimming more and more each day as another star was shining bright: Ron DeSantis who won a second term as governor of Florida in 2022 in a landslide. Desperate to remain relevant after the midterm debacle, Trump liked to remind people that he launched DeSantis’ career in 2018 by endorsing him in his first run for governor.
