Sigh. Just the usual conservative talking points. Let's break this down, shall we? We are the only First World nation whose citizens are heavily armed. No other comparable nation sees guns as a necessary part of life, consequently their murder rates are much, much lower and their societies are much more stable.

Here's something that I have never understood. Why are conservatives so afraid of their own government? If they support democracy, why don't they just vote themselves another government that they are not afraid of. Or, if they think that's not possible, then why don't they move to another country?

Personally, I view my government as my protector. When Trump wanted to nuke North Korea and China and start nuclear wars, it was the military who prevented it. They stopped their own Commander in Chief to protect the country. When Trump sent his violent mob to the Capitol to execute the Speaker and the VP, it was the police who stopped them, protecting our representatives who were then able to continue doing the job for which we had elected them.

Now about your historical examples. I'm afraid your interpretations are incorrect. It was economics, not guns. The hyperinflation of Weimar Germany was caused by the onerous burden of war reparations imposed by the Allies after WWI on Germany. Hitler came to power by blaming the Jews for it, just like Trump came to power by blaming illegal immigrants for the economic plight of blue collar Americans. Ironically, their (Americans) plight was thanks to REPUBLICANS whose pro-business stance resulted in the off-shoring of blue collar jobs. Germans willingly went along with Hitler.

My Russian history is a little shaky, but if I remember correctly, the Communists came to power by claiming they could provided economic prosperity to the Russian peasants. Each of their 5 year plans promised prosperity but never panned out, instead killing many Russians.

My grasp of Chinese history prior to Nixon's visit is even more tenuous. But I'm fairly certain that Mao came to power like his Russian counterparts by promising prosperity to the Chinese peasants. His Great Leap Forward and other attempts at increasing economic output failed miserably and killed a lot of Chinese.

I'll concede you Pol Pot. He was a madman.

John, you are obviously a very intelligent man. You must know that Fox News has an agenda. Don't allow them to impose their agenda on you. Turn off the TV and pick up a book. Read history, economics, biographies. Yes, Fox uses history to prove their points, but they are distorting history. Read the reputable historians and form your own opinions instead of blindly accepting what Fox tells you.
