Texas AG Paxton Acquitted in Impeachment Proceedings
Outside of Texas, this would be known as an outlaw running the justice department
If you ever wondered what the hell is wrong with Texas, you need look no further than the acquittal of Attorney General Ken Paxton on impeachment charges.
Let’s review Paxton’s career up until this point. He was arrested and briefly jailed on securities fraud charges. The case is still pending. He is facing disbarment for trying to overturn the 2020 election in four states. He owes a $3.3 million fine for wrongfully firing whistleblowers who revealed that Paxton had been helping a real estate investor in exchange for free renovations on his (Paxton’s) home and a job for a woman with whom he was having an affair.
Despite all of this, Paxton won re-election in 2022 thanks to an endorsement from Trump. How did he earn Trump’s endorsement? Paxton, you may recall, was the one who sued to overturn the results of the 2020 election in the states of Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The Supreme Court rejected the case because Paxton had no standing because the outcome of the election in those states had no impact on Texas.
