Texas Supreme Court Rules Against Medical Exception to Abortion

I feel a rant coming on

This article is a follow-up to one I wrote a few days ago. You can read or re-read it here. The short version is that a Texas woman carrying a fetus with a fatal genetic condition went to court to obtain an abortion under the medical exception to Texas’ six-week abortion ban.

She won her case but the Texas AG intervened to prevent her from getting that abortion saying, without any medical training whatsoever, that what she was seeking was an elective abortion.

He filed suit with the Texas Supreme Court who has ruled in his favor, agreeing that the fact that she is carrying a dying fetus and made four trips to the emergency room for serious complications, does not meet the standards of the law as written.

I have no problem with any of this. Wait, wait, wait … before you rush to the comments to thunder about abortion rights, hear me out. The judge who granted the woman the right to an abortion is a Democrat, hence the label by AG Paxton of “activist judge.”

The Texas supreme court is made up of nine Republicans. Is it no wonder that they agreed with a Republican AG and a Republican legislature?
