The Deification of Trump
Why it is so dangerous
MAGA has entered a new, more dangerous phase — the deification of Trump. First, let’s look at the evidence of this and then why I think that it’s so dangerous.
Those of us who don’t attend Trump’s campaign rallies, are blissfully unaware that he now ends them like a church service. According to the New York Times, during the last fifteen minutes of his rallies “soft, reflective music” is played and his audience bows their heads or raise their palms in the air.
Trump reads from a teleprompter:
“The great silent majority is rising like never before and under our leadership. We will pray to God for our strength and for our liberty. We will pray for God and we will pray with God. We are one movement, one people, one family and one glorious nation under God.”
Trump as a Christian pastor. Who would ever have imagined such a thing? But apparently his MAGA followers have no problem with the concept.
Trump took it to new levels during the Holy Week leading up to Easter when he started hawking his bibles. The video of him touting his bibles is his usual singsong reading from a teleprompter, but I suppose his followers don’t hear his tone, just his words assuring them that he wants to bring their Christian religion and values back.
