The DOJ is Fining Jan 6 Defendants
They are trying to claw back donations made to fund their legal defense
--
Hey, did you know that we are making money from the trials of the January 6 insurrectionists? Yup, the Justice Department is levying some pretty hefty fines in addition to jail time.
How come?
Well, the insurrectionists have taken a page out of their hero Trump’s playbook and are fundraising off of their trials. They are portraying themselves as victims, political prisoners, prisoners of war, even.
Meanwhile, they are cutting deals, pleading guilty, and ratting out other participants.
So Trumpian.
The bucks are just pouring in.
“Judges have imposed at least $124,127 in fines against 33 riot defendants this year. In the previous two years, judges ordered more than 100 riot defendants to collectively pay more than $240,000 in fines.”
That’s a lot of sympathy. Problem is, like Trump, the January 6 insurrectionists are lying about where the money is going.
Remember when Trump would tell supporters that their donations went into a “legal defense fund” except no such fund existed? Same thing here.
What the insurrectionists aren’t telling their donors is that their lawyers have been provided by the government. They aren’t costing them a thing.
So where is the money going?
I’m not sure where they intended it to go, but right now it’s going into government coffers cuz the Justice Department has a little problem with criminals profiting off of their crimes.
Now before you start boycotting GoFundMe and other legitimate crowdfunding sites, the insurrectionists are using GiveSendGo which claims to be the “#1 Free Christian Fundraising Site.”
And why are they using that site? Because GoFundMe and other crowdfunding sites have banned them from their platforms.
So why is GiveSendGo allowing them to raise money on their site? Because it:
