The Republican Dominated Ohio Legislature Is at It Again
This time they want to encourage donations to crisis pregnancy centers
The Ohio legislature is at it again. You remember them, right? They tried to stop an amendment to the state constitution that legalized abortion, first by raising the threshold for passage from 50% to 60%, and when that failed, rewrote the amendment adding a bunch of fearmongering Republican rhetoric, and when the amendment passed anyways, tried to remove the courts’ jurisdiction over enforcing the amendment.
I wrote about it here if you want a quick refresher.
Well, I am sorry to report that the Ohio state legislature is still at it. They are considering a bill that would provide tax credits to people who make donations to so-called crisis pregnancy centers. The bill authorizes a maximum of $10 million in tax credits each year.
Crisis pregnancy centers are those places that masquerade as clinics where pregnant women who want abortions can get them, but in reality they are run by pro-life advocates who try to talk women out of having abortions. They also spread fun facts like telling women that the abortion pill is reversible.
