There really is no one else to hold the position. That's the beauty of voting him out. The endless squabbling amongst the Republicans as they try to figure out who should lead them. Ya know, the Speaker doesn't have to be a Republican. It could be a Democrat if the Republicans can't get their shit together. Majority vote. It doesn't matter who the majority is. Remember the Democrats voting solidly for Hakeem Jeffries while McCarthy was scrambling to put together a majority of Republicans? If the Republicans fragment enough, Jeffries could be elected Speaker.
