Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Admiral Mike Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Presidents Bush (Jr.) and Obama said in an interview, “If you want to figure out a way to decimate the military, start wiping out its leadership.” That is exactly what Trump is trying to do.

He started symbolically by removing Gen. Mark Milley’s portrait from the hallway in the Pentagon lined with portraits of others who have held the position of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Then he fired Coast Guard commandant, Admiral Linda L. Fagan, who was the first female uniformed leader of a branch of the armed forces. Why? Besides the fact that she is a woman, she had an “excessive focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.” In other words, making sure that women and non-white men have the same opportunities as white men in the Coast Guard.

True to form, the way she was dismissed was completely disrespectful. She was informed that she had been dismissed after the inauguration as she stood in line at the Commander in Chief Ball, waiting to have a photo taken with Trump.

So Trumpian.

Pete Hegseth, Trump’s choice for Defense Secretary who should never be allowed anywhere near a military force, has his eye on a couple of other commanders.
