Ya know, Trump hasn’t really been sleeping during his trial. He’s actually been dreaming up new ways to grift money to pay his legal bills. And, in between pre-trial motions and having to listen to what potential jurors have said about him in the past, he came up with a new variation on an old way of making money.

We’ll get to that in a minute. First, let’s review what he’s been doing to skim money from campaign donations. Prior to declaring himself a candidate for president, he had been using his leadership PAC to pay his legal bills. After declaring his candidacy, he created a new super PAC to rake in large amounts of cash. 10% of donations to his super PAC were redirected to his leadership PAC to cover his legal expenses.

Next, he took control of the RNC by appointing a sycophant, Michael Whatley, and his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump as co-chairs. In 2020, Trump split donations with the RNC 75% to himself and 25% to the RNC. This time around, the split is 90% — 10%. In the case of large donations, the first $6,600 goes to Trump’s super PAC, the next $5,000 goes to his leadership PAC, and the remaining funds go to the RNC.
