Have you been watching the circus surrounding Trump’s rape trial? It has been hilarious. Trump seems to think that he can still control the outcome of a trial like he did back in the 80s whenever someone tried to hold him accountable for a crime.

He started out very boldly, instructing his lawyers to request that the judge “excuse” him from attending the trial in person because of the traffic jams his presence in New York City would cause due to the security that surrounds him.

The judge was asked to read this statement to the jury:

“While no litigant is required to appear at a civil trial, the absence of the defendant in this matter, by design, avoids the logistical burdens that his presence, as the former president, would cause the courthouse and New York City. Accordingly, his presence is excused unless and until he is called by either party to testify.”

This is completely ridiculous. Trump is not legally required to attend the trial. He can elect to attend or not attend with no consequences.

His lawyers have no plans to call him to the stand to testify in person. Instead, his “testimony” will be extracts of depositions…
