Trump Takes MSG
And turns it into a modern-day Hitler rally
What was it that Churchill said? “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” We saw the perfect illustration of that on Sunday as Trump hosted a rally at Madison Square Garden. It was more akin to a Hitler rally than a normal presidential rally.
The warm-up speakers othered anyone who wasn’t a white male. Was anyone really surprised when the so-called comic referred to Puerto Rico as an island of floating garbage? Have they already forgotten that Trump’s idea of hurricane aid was to throw rolls of paper towels at a crowd of desperate islanders?
But the main event of the evening, Trump himself, really brought the message home. He has reached the point where he is literally baying for blood. He wants to investigate, prosecute, execute, or deport anyone who disagrees with him or doesn’t look like him.
And the crowd of his supporters lapped it up. They reveled in the threats and the hatred.
Ya know what I found most disturbing? Not the threats. Not the audience enthusiasm. No, it was the fact that each and every one of those 20,000 people seem to have forgotten what happened the last time we had a would-be dictator threatening to investigate, prosecute, execute, and deport anyone who disagreed with him or did not fit his idea…
