We haven't had an open border with Canada for years. Passports are now required. The new checks have cut down considerably on people using that route to enter the US illegally.

Are you seriously suggesting that we should have an open border with Mexico? Look at the problems we have already!

The EU is NOT an open border community. The borders between the countries within the EU are open, but the borders to the outside world are not open. That's a big difference.
