We keep electing elderly people to office because they are the ones who are running. It’s extremely difficult to beat an incumbent in a primary. If we took away their ability to keep running until they died, then more young people would run because they would feel that they had a chance. Also, it’s very costly to run for office. Donors give money to the candidate that they feel will win, i.e. the elderly incumbent. They are hesitant to take a chance on a new challenger.
And you are an exception when it comes to being tech savvy. I am a Master Gardener, something people usually do when they retire, so I spend a lot of time with people in their 70s and 80s. They are wonderful, but not at all tech savvy. They are also confused and intimidated by the modern world. I look at them and think “do I really want people like that running the government?”
Are you aware of the fact that most of the elderly people in the House and Senate are not at all tech savvy? That they have their much younger staff and interns handle all computer and internet related things because they are not willing to learn how to do it themselves? Is that the kind of people you want running our government?
We live in the 21st century, not the 20th century. I want people running my government who are comfortable living in the modern world, not a bunch of old geezers who are mentally still living in the 20th century.
