We Need a New Republican Party

A healthy democracy requires healthy political parties

I find myself more and more in agreement with Liz Cheney. I agreed with her votes to impeach Trump. I agreed with her service on the select committee investigating January 6. I agreed with her refusal to kiss the ring of Trump resulting in her removal from her leadership position of the House Republicans.

She has been censured by both the RNC and the Wyoming GOP. I agree with her decision to wear both as badges of honor.

Now she has come out saying that if Trump is defeated in November, there needs to be a new Republican party. It’s not enough for Republicans to field candidates not endorsed by Trump. She thinks that the present incarnation of the Republican Party cannot survive.

I don’t agree that the present Republican Party won’t survive. It will just become the Party of MAGA. What I do agree with is that if our country is to remain a democracy, whether or not Trump wins in November, we need a new Republican Party.

A healthy democracy requires healthy political parties and there is nothing healthy about the Republican Party as it is now constituted.

Before you get your Kamala panties in a twist, think of it this way. If she were running against Trump and a new third party…
