When is a Bribe Not a Bribe?

When it’s a gratuity

So someone is finally trying to do something about the flagrant corruption surrounding the justices of the Supreme Court. AOC and Jamie Raskin, both Democratic Representatives, are introducing legislation that would prohibit the justices from receiving gifts worth more than $50, with a total of $100 per year.

Yeah, I giggled too.

The bill would also put a limit of $18,000 on gifts of “personal hospitality.” I wanna know what kind of Airbnbs these people are staying at. And does that $18,000 include cleaning fees?

According to Raskin:

“The Supreme Court is the highest court in the land but has the lowest ethical standards, which means pay-to-play billionaires, right-wing dark money groups and carbon-emitting special interests have freedom to purchase the best justice money can buy.”

Of course, this bill has no chance of ever passing in the Republican majority House, but, damn, somebody has to try to do something about the corruption. Cuz these justices aren’t just out to see how much money and gifts they can collect.

They are also spreading the disease all over the land. Just look at one of their latest decisions, Snyder v. United States.
