Why is Elon Musk at the Pentagon Being Briefed on War With China?
Why does he need to know the military’s top-secret plans for war with China?
I hope that fact that Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest man and one of the largest US military contractors is in the Tank at the Pentagon today (Friday, March 21) meeting with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Adm. Christopher W. Grady, the acting chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Adm. Samuel J. Paparo, the head of the military’s Indo-Pacific Command, scares you just a little.
The Tank, by the way, is a secure conference room in the Pentagon, usually used for high-level meetings of members of the Joint Chiefs, their senior staff and visiting combatant commanders, not for some erratic billionaire who takes joy in firing people and destroying entire departments.
And, yes, Musk has a security clearance. Additionally, Hegseth can determine who has a need to know about the plan being discussed. Which means if Musk’s clearance isn’t high enough for this meeting, Hegseth can grant him an exception.
Hey, about that security clearance. Musk is currently under investigation by the Pentagon’s inspector general over questions about his compliance with his top-secret security clearance. No surprise there. Musk does what he wants. Like…
