Why Isn’t Biden Attending COP28?

Is he too busy or too old?

Big news today. Biden won’t be attending COP28, the big UN climate conference being held in Dubai. He attended COP 26 held in Glasgow, Scotland, and COP27 held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Just a little strange for a president who claims to be so concerned about climate change. Earlier this month he referred to climate change as “the ultimate threat to humanity.”

Biden is sending Special Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry, National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi, and Senior Advisor John Podesta to the conference to represent the United States. Also strange. The United Kingdom is sending both their Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and King Charles III. The Vatican is sending the Pope.

And we can’t send our president?

So why is Biden staying home? Here are the official reasons why:

1. The wars in Ukraine and the Middle East. I don’t know about you, but I would think that it would be easier to keep up with what’s going on in Ukraine and Gaza when you’re in the same time zone rather than half a world away. Maybe that’s because I value my sleep. I hear you don’t need as much sleep when you’re older.
